VINTAGE JAPANESE SHAMISEN DOUKAKE SIDE COVER FOR DOU (BODY) VARIOUS FLOWERS 地唄

Description

This is a vintage Japanese
doukake
which is placed on the side of the
shamisen
body. These are used to protect and add style to the instrument. Made of silk
kimono
cloth stretched over a stiffened paper backing. The design is of three different types of flowers on a black background. The attached threads are royal purple.
This
doukake
measures almost 8 1/2" and a bit over 4 1/8"
(21.5 x 10.5 cm). Having been used only infrequently and in storage for most of the last half century the fabric remains in
very good condition
.  There is stamped on the back with the size as 地唄 "Jiuta".  Please note: the shamisen body seen in the photos is
not included
in the sale of this listing.
